Despite the general election being only months away, a new candidate has joined the race for the 2020 White House.

Michigan congressman Justin Amash announced his plans to enter the presidential race late Tuesday night.

Amash, a former Republican, is a member of the Libertarian Party who hopes to appeal to voters disgruntled with Trump but unwilling to support a Democratic candidate.

Serving as a five-term congressman, Amash left the Republican Party in July 2019, after he was the only Republican congressman to vocally support the impeachment of President Trump.
