Election 2020: Republican National Convention and Fact-Checking Trump
President Donald Trump was formally nominated for a second term at the Republican National Convention. Trump chose to host an in-person event in Charlotte, North Carolina, where delegates are conducting the convention’s official business. Delegates also unanimously renominated Vice President Pence to lead the GOP ticket. The President formally accepted the nomination outside the White House - sparking criticism of the safety and ethicality of the chosen location. First lady Melania Trump spoke at the Republican National Convention. At the White House, Melania Trump offered sympathy for victims of the coronavirus pandemic as her speech’s warm tone contrasted with the Republican gathering that faced harsh rhetoric about Democratic opponent Joe Biden. Vice President Mike Pence closed out on the third night of the Republican National Convention. Pence made a case that President Trump has the track record to bring the country back from “a time of testing.” More than 100 of the late Senator John McCain’s aides endorsed Democratic nominee Joe Biden in the 2020 race in a new attack advert. The list of signatories includes a range of people from chiefs of staff in McCain’s Senate office to junior aides on his campaigns.
