Election 2020: Biden and Trump Speak on Floyd’s Death, Trump’s War with Twitter Escalates
On Monday, President Trump threatened to pull the Republican National Convention out of North Carolina if Governor Roy Cooper does not assure him that the Convention, set to take place in August, can go forward despite coronavirus fears. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis both offered their states to host the Republican National Convention instead. On Tuesday, Trump’s election campaign promoted one of his top political advisers, Bill Stepien, to deputy campaign manager. This move is an effort to bolster the team heading into the last five months of the re-election effort. On Tuesday, Twitter added fact-check warnings to two of President Trump’s tweets that falsely called mail-in ballots “substantially fraudulent.” In response, Trump signed an executive order on Thursday challenging the liability protections that companies like Twitter and Facebook have. The executive order would cut federal funding for tech companies that engage in censorship as well.
