Former Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday unveiled new plans on health care and education in order to unite the Democratic party. While left-leaning articles highlight specifics in Biden’s new proposals, right-leaning articles highlight that Biden’s campaign message focuses on “normalcy.”
The New York Times highlights that Biden’s new proposals include expanding Medicare, government insurance for Americans over 65, and also forgiving student debt for lower-income Americans who attended public colleges. Further, Biden said his new polices would help Americans hurt by the outbreak to “find more secure footing in the longer term once we have emerged from this crisis.”
A centrist article on Newsweek reports that under the student debt forgiveness proposal, Biden seeks to cancel the federal student debt held by low-income and middle-class people who attended undergraduate programs in public colleges and universities. However, Biden also acknowledged that even after the crisis ends, older individuals will find it more difficult to secure employment
A right-leaning article by Daily Caller highlights that environmentalists and youth activists are now turning their eyes toward Biden, whose core campaign message is a return to normalcy. The article also notes that Biden said in a Medium post Wednesday that the movement Sanders helped create an indispensable tool that will promote change in the future.
