On Tuesday, President Biden signed three executive orders that he said would lead to a more “fair, orderly, humane” immigration system. While left-leaning articles highlight that Biden signed an executive order that would create a task force chaired by the Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to reunite families, right-leaning articles highlight that former Acting Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli slammed Biden’s recent executive orders and immigration policies.
A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that Biden signed an executive order that would create a task force chaired by the Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to reunite families. However, because of poor government record keeping, it is difficult to identify how many parents were deported without their children and where they are currently living.
NPR published a centrist article reporting that one of the orders would begin the process of reuniting migrant children separated from their parents after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, while another creates looks at how to address the surge of migrants seeking asylum in the U.S. However, the new administration is under pressure from immigration activists worried that reforms will stall as Biden rushes to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that former Acting Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli slammed Biden’s recent executive orders and immigration policies. Cuccinelli said Biden administration’s policies put a “strain on foreign countries and an already understaffed U.S. immigration system.”
