In a speech on Monday, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden pushed back against President Trump’s campaign message that voters wouldn’t be safe under his administration. While left-leaning articles highlight that Biden’s address deflected criticism that Trump has leveled against him, right-leaning articles highlight that Biden condemned lawlessness in America.

A left-leaning article by The New York Times highlights that Biden’s address was his most prominent effort yet to deflect the criticism that Trump and Republicans leveled against him at their convention last week, rejecting the suggestion that lawlessness would go unchecked under his leadership. Many Democrats described a delicate balancing that Biden must manage by condemning rioting but seeking to show support for peaceful protesters.

A centrist article by NPR reports that Biden called Trump power hungry, stating that "[Trump] can't stop the violence because for years he has fomented it." Biden argued that as president, he would be able to unite the country and abandon the divisive language Trump uses.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that Biden condemned lawlessness in America in his Pittsburgh speech, asking voters if they believe there will be less violence in America if Trump gets reelected. Moments after the speech ended, Trump tweeted: "Just watched what Biden had to say. To me, he’s blaming the Police far more than he’s blaming the Rioters, Anarchists, Agitators, and Looters, which he could never blame or he would lose the Radical Left Bernie supports!"
