President-elect Joe Biden officially announced a few other members of his economic team, which include Princeton University labor economist Cecilia Rouse as chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, Adewale Adeyemo as deputy treasury secretary, and Brian Deese as lead of the National Economic Council.
A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that the incoming Biden administration’s economic team represents a diversity of backgrounds and experiences, ranging from liberal academia to Wall Street. Immediate tweets from an array of economic thinkers on the left were mostly positive.
NPR published a centrist article reporting that many of Biden’s advisers are veterans of the Obama White House and some also served with Hillary Clinton in her campaigns. The lightning rod that has emerged on the list is Neera Tanden, as she was an adviser to Hillary Clinton in the 2008 campaign and then was part of the Obama administration.
A right-leaning article by New York Post highlights that Republican Senator John Cornyn’s communications director, Drew Brandewie, said there is “zero chance” the Senate will confirm Neera Tanden, Biden’s expected nominee to head the Office of Management and Budget. Brandewie said Tanden has “an endless stream of disparaging comments about the Republican Senators’ whose votes she’ll need.”
