On Tuesday, members of president-elect Joe Biden’s transition effort said that he would not undo all of President Trump’s changes to the U.S. immigration system overnight. While left-leaning articles highlight that Biden is planning to follow through on campaign pledges to implement a 100-day freeze on deportations, right-leaning articles highlight that Biden said “it is going to take probably the next six months” to reverse Trump’s immigration policies.

A left-leaning article by CBS highlights that Biden is planning to follow through on campaign pledges to implement a 100-day freeze on deportations and limit immigration arrests. Biden transition officials also confirmed the incoming administration plans to gradually end the “Remain in Mexico” programs.

The Hill published a centrist article reporting that transition officials promised that Biden would suspend deportations while making changes to the immigration system upon taking office. Susan Rice, Biden’s domestic policy chief, also stated that although some steps can be taken to change policies right away, others will take time to put in place.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that Biden said “it is going to take probably the next six months” to reverse Trump’s immigration policies. These comments sparked Representative Ilhan Omar to accuse the Biden team of breaking a “core campaign promise.”
