China has launched more drills after a new group of U.S. lawmakers visited Taiwan. While left-leaning articles highlight China’s reaction to the visit, right-leaning articles highlight the lawmakers who visited.

The Hill published a centrist article reporting on how China launched more drills in response to the visit to Taiwan. Senior Col. Shi Yi, a spokesman for the People’s Liberation Army, stated that the drills are a “solemn deterrent” to the United States who Shi accused of playing “political tricks” and undermining peace.

A left-leaning article from The Washington Post focuses on how China’s Taiwan Affairs Office warned that continued provocation would lead to “severe punishment” of Taiwan’s leaders. A spokesman for the office also warned of unspecified consequences if Taiwan’s leaders “failed to restrain themselves,” stating that “certain individuals in the United States haven’t learned that lesson from the consequences of Pelosi’s visit.”

A right-leaning article from Fox News focuses on how the following five members of Congress made the trip to Taiwan:  Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA), and Reps. John Garamendi (D-CA), Alan Lowenthal (D-CA), Don Beyer (D-VA), and Amata Radewagen (R-AS). The group met with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and other government officials.
