The debate on the origins of COVID-19 continues, as a scientist who uncovered data on the genetic sequence of the SARS-COV-2 virus said it was deleted from a National Institute of Health (NIH) database. While left-leaning articles highlight that there has never been a real investigation into whether the virus that causes COVID-19 was already spreading at the Wuhan Military World Games, right-leaning articles highlight that House Republicans called on the Biden administration to take more action to hold China accountable for the coronavirus pandemic.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that there has never been a real investigation into whether the virus that causes COVID-19 was already spreading at the Wuhan Military World Games, where more than 9,000 international athletes traveled to in October 2019. During the two-week event, many of the international athletes noticed something was amiss.

The Hill published a centrist article reporting that Jesse Bloom, principal researcher at the Fred Hutchingson Cancer Research Center, wrote in a paper that he recovered a dataset containing SARS-CoV-2 sequences from early in the Wuhan epidemic. According to Bloom, the data shows that the virus was circulating in the Chinese city of Wuhan before a December outbreak of COVID-19 linked to a “wet market” selling animals.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that House Republicans called on the Biden administration to take more action to hold China accountable for the coronavirus pandemic. House GOP leadership outlined eight proposals to crack down on China including new sanctions and visa restrictions.
