Congress has been exploring legislation that would reshape what policing should look like in America. While left-leaning articles highlight that Congressional Republicans are struggling to find a legislative response, right-leaning articles highlight that Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said she does not support the actual idea of eliminating funding to law enforcement agencies.

A left-leaning article by The New York Times highlights that Congressional Republicans are struggling to coalesce around a legislative response to public support for overhauling policing in America. The article notes that President Trump has spent much of the past two days posting messages on Twitter that call for “LAW & ORDER,” and it remains unclear what kind of action he will take.

A centrist article by NPR reports that Patrick Yoes, president of the Fraternal Order of Police, said in an interview Wednesday with NPR’s Morning Edition that he agrees with the growing consensus over the need for reform. Yoes signaled measured support for the creation of a registry to track misconduct, as well as a ban on chokeholds.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said on Wednesday that she supports the “spirit” of the “Defund the Police” movement, but not the actual idea of eliminating funding to law enforcement agencies. The article nots that Whitmer’s view is in line with many Democratic lawmakers, who have come out against removing funding to embattled police departments.
