In June, the U.S. added 850,000 jobs, exceeding expectations with the rising demand for a wide range of services disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. While left-leaning articles highlight that Biden credited relief legislation that was passed with only Democratic votes, right-leaning articles highlight that former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer called out Biden for taking a victory lap on the jobs report.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that Biden credited relief legislation that was passed with only Democratic votes as he touted an increase of 850,000 jobs in June. Biden proclaimed that “our economy is on the move and we have COVID-19 on the run.”

The Hill published a centrist article reporting that the unemployment rate ticked slightly higher to 5.9 percent, but the labor force participation rate stayed roughly even at 61.6 percent. There were also 6.4 million Americans who did not seek a job in June and therefore not counted as unemployed.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer called out Biden for taking a victory lap on the jobs report. Although Biden attributed his $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan with boosting the labor market’s recovery from the worst downturn in nearly a century, Fleischer said jobs are being created because “COVID is over.”
