The migrant surge at the southern border is turning into a big problem for the Biden administration, as the number of children without a parent detained at the border is roughly double the number from 12 months earlier. While left-leaning articles highlight that Representative Henry Cuellar isn’t happy with how President Biden’s team has responded to the surge of migrants trying to enter the United States, right-leaning articles highlight that Republicans are renewing calls for Democrats to hold a hearing on the growing crisis at the southern border.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that Representative Henry Cuellar, a moderate Texas Democrat whose district hugs the border with Mexico, isn’t happy with how President Biden’s team has responded to the surge of migrants trying to enter the United States. Immigration attorney Neha Desai said although conditions at detention sites have greatly improved from the Trump era, “it is unacceptable for children to be spending days on end in dramatically overcrowded facilities.”

The Hill published a centrist article reporting that border apprehensions overall topped 100,000 last month, which is a rise of more than 25 percent over January’s figure. The situation greatly complicates Biden’s attempts to enact broad-scale immigration reform.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that Republicans are renewing calls for Democrats to hold a hearing on the growing crisis at the southern border. Representative Tom McClintock wrote to the Chair of the Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship re-issuing calls for a healing “to examine the Biden administration’s crisis on the southern U.S. border.”
