On Friday, political leaders gathered in Baltimore for the funeral of Representative Elijah Cummings, who died last week at age 68. Left-leaning articles on the funeral discuss Cummings’ political and personal achievements, centrist articles report on the eulogies given at the funeral, and right-leaning sources tend to particularly focus on Hillary Clinton’s remarks about Cummings.

A right-leaning article from the Daily Caller focuses on one particular remark by Clinton, in which she compared Cummings to his Biblical namesake and said that “he stood against corrupt leadership of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel.” The article characterizes Clinton’s remark as “a veiled shot at Trump.” Other right-leaning articles also tend to focus on Clinton and her husband’s eulogies at the funeral.

A left-leaning New York Times article also reports on the eulogies, but also explains his history as a civil rights leader and mentor figure in the House. The article notes, “He was also known for his fierce loyalty to Baltimore and its residents, and he stood up for them when, in July, Mr. Trump derided Mr. Cummings’s majority-black Baltimore district as “a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” where “no human being” would want to live.” The article reports that former president Barack Obama also spoke at the funeral, calling Cummings “a man of noble and good heart.”

A centrist NPR article reports on the eulogies and readings  at the funeral, from Obama and the Clintons as well as local inhabitants of Baltimore and 2020 presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren. The article also notes that the crowd to get inside the funeral was so long that some mourners were unable to get in.
