The Obamas were welcomed to the White House by President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden. The event was held for the first time since 2012, when Barack Obama hosted former President George W. Bush and former first lady Laura Bush for their official portrait unveiling at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

USA Today published a centrist article reporting on President Joe Biden highlighting Barack Obama's accomplishments, such as passing the Affordable Care Act, as well as the deep relationship the Obamas and Bidens forged. This is the first time the Obamas have been at the event since George W. Bush's portrait was unveiled in 2012.

A left-leaning article from Washington Post highlights how President Joe Biden surprised President Barack Obama by inviting him back to the White House for a portrait unveiling. "I'm honored to host you and so many friends who have been part of this incredible journey," Biden said at the event in Washington. It's unlikely Biden will host an event for President Donald Trump, however.

A right-leaning article from NY Post highlights how hundreds of former Obama aides packed the East Room for the unveiling where former first lady Michelle Obama delivered an impassioned speech assessing her husband's legacy and gave Biden a rare opportunity to try to hitch Democrats' midterm hopes to the two-term former president.
