On Friday, Vice President Mike Pence said the presidential election is still undecided, as he urged Georgia Republicans to vote for the state’s Senate runoff elections. While left-leaning articles highlight that some top GOP figures have recently promoted the work of two attorneys who have been suggesting potential GOP boycotts of the Georgia elections, right-leaning articles highlight that Georgia Republicans have been nervous that some of Trump’s allies could suppress GOP turnout in the Georgia runoffs.
A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that Trump-aligned attorneys Sidney Powell and L. Lin Wood have been suggesting potential GOP boycotts of the January Georgia races. It’s unclear how much Trump disagrees with what Wood and Powell are doing, as Trump has retweeted Wood four times recently, but also reportedly urged Wood and Powell to back off.
A centrist article by USA Today highlights that although Pence has not gone as far as President Trump in falsely claiming the presidential race is rigged, he continues to assert that the winner hasn’t been determined. A second recount of Georgia’s results confirmed that President-elect Joe Biden won the state.
A right-leaning article by The Washington Examiner highlights that Georgia Republicans have been nervous that some of Trump’s allies, such as lawyers Lin Wood and Sidney Powell, have been discouraging people from voting and could suppress GOP turnout in the Georgia runoffs. On Saturday, Trump returns to the campaign trail to back incumbent GOP senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.
