Supreme Court Rules for a Catholic Group in a Case Involving Gay Rights Foster Care

On Thursday, the Supreme Court unanimously sided with a Catholic foster care agency that says its religious views prevent it from working with same-sex couples as foster parents, and the city of Philadelphia wrongly cut ties with the group. While left-leaning articles highlight that Republicans are putting increasing pressure on Kentucky’s Democratic governor, right-leaning articles highlight that the ruling has left some on the left disappointed with the entire court.

Governor Andy Beshear remains noncommittal about the future contract status of Sunrise Children’s Services.

The Hill published a centrist article reporting that Chief Justice John Roberts said Philadelphia violated the First Amendment’s Free Exercise clause. Although all nine justices agreed with the judgement, several wrote separate concurring opinions. 

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that the ruling has left some on the left disappointed with the entire court. A segment of Democrats have been pushing for Biden to have the ability to expand the roster of the Supreme Court and pack it with liberal justices.
