On Friday, the Supreme Court declined to block a vaccine mandate for health care workers in Maine over objections that it doesn’t include a religious exemption. While left-leaning articles highlight that Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch dissented, saying they would have blocked the mandate, right-leaning articles highlight that the White House rejected a Washington D.C. district court order that would halt the termination of civilian and active-duty military employees that sue over religious exemptions to the administration’s vaccine mandate.

A left-leaning article by NBC News highlights that Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch dissented, saying they would have blocked the mandate. Meanwhile, two of the court's other conservatives, Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh, said they agreed the court should not take the case.

USA Today published a centrist article reporting that the Supreme Court’s move is the latest example of the high court steering clear of the issue of religious exemption. The court’s ruling allows Maine’s state requirement to remain in place while litigation continues.

A right-leaning article by Washington Examiner highlights that the Biden White House rejected a Washington D.C. district court order that would halt the termination of civilian and active-duty military employees that sue over religious exemptions to the administration’s vaccine mandate. The order also asked the administration to take active-duty military plaintiffs whose religious exemption requests have been denied.
