On Monday, a Taliban spokesman said that American troops must be out of Afghanistan by August 31. While left-leaning articles highlight that more than 600 military veterans signed a letter to Biden over the lack of attention to a category of Afghan allies who fear they might be left behind during military evacuations, right-leaning articles highlight that the House Problem Solvers Caucus voted to call on Biden to extend the August 31 withdrawal date from Afghanistan.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that more than 600 military veterans signed a letter to Biden over the lack of attention to a category of Afghan allies who fear they might be left behind during military evacuations. These allies qualify for “Priority 2” refugee status, which was created earlier in August for Afghans working with U.S.-funded NGO and contractor programs.

People published a centrist article reporting that the Taliban will not tolerate any delay in American leaving. Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said the administration continues to talk with the Taliban about the evacuation.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that the House Problem Solvers Caucus has voted to call on Biden to extend the August 31 withdrawal date from Afghanistan. A statement endorsed by the caucus read that the “Administration’s set date for departure from Afghanistan on August 31 does not provide enough time to evacuate all American citizens and our partners.
