On Tuesday, the Republican-controlled Texas Legislature passed a major bill overhauling the state’s elections. While left-leaning articles highlight that the legislation takes aim in particular at Harris County, a growing Democratic bastion that includes Houston, right-leaning articles highlight that the legislation makes it “easier to vote and harder to cheat” in Texas.

A left-leaning article by The New York Times highlights that the legislation takes aim in particular at Harris County, a growing Democratic bastion that includes Houston. 18 states across the country have passed more than 30 bills this year, including Texas.

USA Today published a centrist article reporting that Governor Greg Abbott, who has pushed for a measure addressing “election integrity” said he would sign the bill. Tuesday’s development closes out a chapter for the Legislature, which was deeply divided along party lines.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that according to Governor Abbott, the legislation makes it “easier to vote and harder to cheat” in Texas. The bill creates uniform statewide voting hours and maintains and expands voting access for registered voters who need assistance.
