On Friday, House impeachment investigators released two transcripts of closed-door depositions from President Trump’s former adviser on Russia and Europe Fiona Hill and top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council Alexander S. Vindman.
A left-leaning article from The New York Times summarizes key excerpts from the depositions. The article reports that Vindman and Hill both claimed that American ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland implicated acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney. Furthermore, Vindman told impeachment investigators he consistently counseled Ukrainians not to interfere in U.S. domestic politics and that Ukrainians were well aware of what Mr. Trump meant by “do us a favor.”
A centrist article from NPR highlights that in Vindman’s transcript, he stated that while he was on the call between the president and the president of Ukraine, he knew that something wrong had occurred and that afterwards he couldn’t make the edits to the rough transcript that are usually part of his job. The article also reports that Hill testified about how National Security Advisor John Bolton was disturbed about pressing Ukrainian officials for investigations and that Mulvaney played a role in it.
A right-leaning article byThe Daily Caller reports that Hill’s testimony revealed she had concerns with British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s dossier. According to the article, Hill said, “Because if you also think about it, the Russians would have an axe to grind against him given the job that he had previously. And if he started going back through his old contacts and asking about that, that would be a perfect opportunity for people to feed some kind of misinformation.” The Daily Caller published another right-leaning article quoting Donald Trump’s attack on Democratic head of House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff. “Adam Schiff is a corrupt politician. He is corrupt. He made up a speech and he put my voice in it. He made up a speech. Had nothing to do with what I said. Adam Schiff is a corrupt politician.”
