Pushback is building in conservative circles against President Trump’s conspiracy theory that MSNBC host Joe Scarborough is connected to the death of his former congressional staffer, Lori Klausutis. While left-leaning articles highlight the radio silence on the topic from Trump’s allies, right-leaning articles highlight that Twitter refused to delete Trump’s tweet, despite being “deeply sorry.”
A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that there is radio silence on the topic from Trump’s most ardent allies, who have not outwardly supported him on his actions. The conservative media has also generally avoided discussing the topic.
USA Today published a centrist article reporting that in a Twitter post, Sen. Mitt Romney called Trump’s claims “vile” and “baseless” and said for the sake of Klausutis’ husband, “enough already.” Representative Liz Cheney, R-Wyo, who is the third-highest ranking House Republican, told reporters she believed Trump should “stop tweeting about Joe Scarborough.”
A right-leaning article by The Washington Examiner highlights that President Trump fired back at Twitter after it put a fact-checking label on two of his tweets that claimed mail-in ballots will lead to voter fraud. Twitter also said it was “deeply sorry” for Trump’s tweets regarding the death of Klausutis, but refused to delete them after Klausutis’ widower asked Twitter’s CEO to delete them.
