On Thursday, the House voted to strip Russia of its protected trading status. While left-leaning articles highlight that the bill is meant to complement last week’s measure that codified Biden’s executive order banning Russian oil and energy imports, right-leaning articles highlight that the bill would give President Biden authority to increase tariffs on products from Russia and Belarus until the start of 2024.

A left-leaning article by Politico highlights that the bill is meant to complement last week’s measure that codified Biden’s executive order banning Russian oil and energy imports.  The bill directed World Trade Organization members to suspend trade concessions with Russia.

CNBC published a centrist article reporting that the measure has wide support in the Senate.  The House passed the measure in a 424-8 vote.

A right-leaning article by New York Post highlights that the bill would give President Biden authority to increase tariffs on products from Russia and Belarus until the start of 2024. It would also provide Biden with the authority to resume normal trade relations.
