After an unruly and seemingly uncivilized first Presidential debate, we witnessed a passionate and fierce conversation between the two vice presidential nominees. This was arguably far more respectful and professional than the presidential debate. They had fierce disagreements about the handling of Covid, possible Supreme Court Nominations and how best to repair a broken economy and job market.
A left leaning piece by the Washington Post presents some of the highlights of the vice presidential debate and looks to fact check much of the information declared as truth by the two vice presidential candidates. The debate was a heated conversation between Vice President Pence and Rep. Kamala Harris in which they attempted to appeal to their respective voter bases.
A centrist article from USA Today recounted the highlights of the debate as well. VP Pence and Sen. Harris passionately debated topics such as taxes, Covid, the environment, and the economy and job markets. The article emphasized the civil nature of the conversation, reminding us that it showed far more decorum and professionalism than the first Presidential debate. Because of this, they were able to have a more fruitful and productive conversation that paid attention to real facts, rather than emotional interruptions.
A right leaning article from Fox News also outlined the highlights of the debate. While the debate was civilized, there were still many moments of tension and quarrel. For example, when Pence spoke over Harris, she said “Mr. Vice President, I’m speaking. I’m speaking” and to this the Vice President said “it’d be more important if you said the truth.” Harris attacked the Trump administrations handling of Covid, saying that they wildly mishandled the crisis and did not have an adequate plan, and to this, Pence said “from the very first day, President Donald Trump has put the health of the American people first.” Pence also boasted about Trump’s swift decision to curtail all flights in and out of China.
