The White House’s response team warned Tuesday that America must brace for 100,000 or more people to die in the coming months in the coronavirus pandemic. While left-leaning articles highlight how critical the next two weeks will be in fighting the coronavirus, right-leaning articles highlight the severity of the coronavirus mortality rate.

A left-leaning article by The New York Times reports that President Donald Trump warned Americans that the coming two weeks would be crucial in the fight against the coronavirus. In a news conference at the White House, Trump said that it was “absolutely critical” for Americans to follow federal social distancing guidelines through the end of April.

NPR published a centrist article reporting that Dr. Anthony Fauci, a top immunologist helping to steer White House policy on the coronavirus pandemic, stated that the prediction that 100,000 people will die in the coming months can be influenced by social distancing guidelines. However, Trump suggested that 100,000 could be a floor and not the ceiling regarding deaths in the coming months.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that Dr. Fauci and other public health officials on the White House coronavirus task force warned that even if the U.S. were to continue practicing social distancing, the coronavirus could still leave 100,000 to 240,000 people in the United States dead. Trump also declined to sugarcoat the severity of the pandemic and the upcoming battle in the next two weeks.
