On Tuesday, the World Health Organization warned nations against scaling back coronavirus restrictions too quickly and cautioned that countries could face another peak of cases even ahead of a presumed second wave of infections months from now. While left-leaning articles highlight that crowds flooded newly reopened spaces over Memorial Day weekend, right-leaning articles highlight that states are sending mixed messages on whether restrictions could be reimplemented in the future.

The Washington Post published a left-leaning article highlighting that crowds flooded newly reopened beaches and other public spaces over Memorial Day weekend, as dozens splashed around a pool at a club in Houston and thousands packed the stands shoulder to shoulder at a speedway in North Carolina. The mayor of Osage Beach, Missouri, where images of the partiers at the Lake of Ozarks went viral over the weekend, said he views it essential that his town’s tourist-dependent businesses reopen.

NPR published a centrist article reporting that the number of new coronavirus cases have been going up in Alabama, even as the state’s governor relaxes restrictions. Mayor Steven Reed said Montgomery has been flagged as a potential COVID-19 “hot spot,” largely because Montgomery is a regional healthcare center for central Alabama.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that when most states move to at least partially reopen their economies and lift orders requiring people to stay at home to slow the spread of the coronavirus, they are sending mixed messages on whether or not restrictions could be re-implemented if there is an increase of cases. President Trump has made it clear he opposes any return to stay-at-home orders.
