According to polls, former Vice President Joe Biden has a lead over President Trump in a hypothetical general election match-up. While left-leaning articles highlight that Trump’s rise in approval ratings does not help him narrow Biden’s lead, right-leaning articles highlight that Trump’s supporters are more committed to him than Biden backers are to Biden.
A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that although Trump’s approval ratings have risen despite the dismal economy, the latest Nationscape survey shows that the 46 percent of Americans who approve of Trump lags the 58 percent who approve of his handling of the coronavirus outbreak. The article states that Trump’s small approval bump has now helped him narrow Biden’s lead, as Democrats remain firmly in Biden’s camp, even though a few more of them say that they approve of Trump.
The Hill published a centrist article reporting that a Reuters-Ipsos poll released Tuesday shows that Biden has a 6-point edge over President Trump, which is an increase from the same poll earlier this month that showed a 1-point gap. The poll also suggested that the presidential contest would largely depend on the coronavirus, as 89 percent of voters said they are “very” or “somewhat” concerned by the outbreak.
A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that although national polls show Biden with the edge over President Trump, a Fox News poll indicates that Trump supporters are more committed to voting for Trump than Biden backers. The article also notes that a Grinnell survey indicates the 82 percent of likely voters who said they will support Trump say their minds are made up, while that number is only 55 percent for Biden supporters.
