On Thursday, President-elect Joe Biden outlined his plans for economic relief from the coronavirus crisis. His plan is called the American Rescue Plan and is expected to cost $1.9 trillion. While left-leaning articles highlight that Biden’s relief proposal covers a national vaccination program, right-leaning articles highlight that Democrats would potentially be able to pass some of the measures without Republican support through the fast-track budget reconciliation process.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that Biden’s relief proposal covers a national vaccination program, direct aid for struggling families, and relief for small businesses and communities. Biden officials also stress that the plan is meant to be passed quickly and will be followed by a broader recovery package with other Democratic priorities.

NPR published a centrist article reporting that that the package includes $1,400 direct stimulus checks, supplementing the $600 checks Congress passed late last year. The plan also calls on Congress to invest $170 billion on K-12 schools and higher education.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that Democrats would potentially be able to pass some of the measures without Republican support through the fast-track budget reconciliation process. Lawmakers included a Friday deadline in the December legislation for the IRS to send out $600 payments.
