On Tuesday morning, the White House and Capitol Building were briefly in lockdown when an aircraft entered the area’s restricted airspace. While a left-leaning article by the Washington Post reports that “no fighter jets were scrambled in the incident”, a right leaning article describes a state of disarray with “an abrupt security situation, with [fighter] jets being scrambled and officers warning people outside Capitol facilities to stay far away. The U.S. Secret Service said personnel at the White House were told to remain in place.”
In contrast to the report of Fox News, a left-leaning article by The Washington Post reports, “But on Tuesday afternoon, Maj. Andrew Hennessy, a U.S. military spokesman, said no fighter jets were scrambled in the incident.”
A centrist-leaning article from The Hill merely describes the lockdown as “a potential violation of the restricted airspace in the National Capital Region” as “Capitol Police said they were "tracking an aircraft that poses a potential threat to the Capitol Complex.” The article reports a short (20-minute) lockdown and nothing more.
A right-leaning article by Fox News contradicts the report of The Washington Post, describing officials “scrambling” for defense. “The incident caused an abrupt security situation, with jets being scrambled and officers warning people outside Capitol facilities to stay far away. The U.S. Secret Service said personnel at the White House were told to remain in place … Fox News has learned that U.S. Capitol Police scrambled a helicopter, and the military scrambled fighter jets from Joint Base Andrews.”
