The Justice Department is dropping its case against Michael Flynn, President Trump’s former national security adviser who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about Russia’s ambassador. While left-leaning articles highlight Trump’s history of meddling with the Justice Department, right-leaning articles highlight that Trump accused officials involved in prosecuting Flynn of “treason.”

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that the Justice Department's decision to drop its two-plus-year-old prosecution of Flynn is an outcome very much in line with what Trump publicly urged, as Trump’s allies in recent days seized documents released by Flynn’s legal team that showed an FBI official musing about whether investigators had the goal of getting Flynn to lie. The article notes that Trump continued to weigh in on Justice Department situations, despite Attorney General William Barr’s three-month-old exhortation that Trump should not meddle.

NPR published a centrist article reporting that a Justice Department review of Flynn’s case ordered by Barr concluded that the interests of justice would not be served by going ahead with the prosecution. Further, Thursday’s developments were expected to bring more criticism of Barr, who Democrats have called too eager to please Trump.

A right-leaning article by New York Post highlights that President Trump accused U.S. officials involved in the prosecution of Mike Flynn of “treason.” Trump also said that the “Obama administration Justice Department was a disgrace and they got caught.”
