According to a new Gallup poll, an overwhelming majority of Americans say they think it is important for the government to implement mandatory quarantines for people who have tested positive for the coronavirus. While left-leaning articles highlight results from the Gallup poll, right-leaning articles highlight that Trump claims Democratic governors are “moving slowly” in loosening restrictions for political purposes.
A left-leaning article by The New York Times highlights that Dr. Anthony S. Fauci and three other top government doctors will virtually testify before the Senate Health Committee on Tuesday, marking the first time Dr. Fauci has appeared before Congress since President Trump declared the coronavirus crisis a national emergency on March 13. While Trump and administration officials have boasted that the United States has done more testing than any other nation, many public health experts view the total number of tests as irrelevant.
The Hill published a centrist article reporting that the top priority among respondents of the Gallup poll was for a mandatory quarantine to be in place for anyone who tests positive for COVID-19, with eighty percent saying it was “very important.” 77 percent of respondents also said it was very important for them to see an improvement in medical therapies to treat COVID-19.
A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that President Trump claimed on Monday that Democratic governors are “moving slowly” in loosening restrictions and reopening business because of “political purposes.” The president has also been encouraging protesters by tweeting last month that they should “liberate” states with Democratic governors.
