This week, Trump sounded off against Fox News for a poll that shows him in serious trouble for the 2020 presidential race. The poll shows that every Democratic candidate tested beats Trump in 2020 matchups. When asked about the poll Trump said “Fox is a lot different than it used to be, I can tell you that. ... Fox has changed. And my worst polls have always been from Fox. There's something going on at Fox, I'll tell you right now. And I'm not happy with it.”

A left-leaning CNN article makes no bones about Trump’s feelings toward Fox News: “Now, let's be clear here: What Trump doesn't like is that Fox News conducts a credible national poll -- like every other network including CNN -- that shows Trump's approval rating dipping to 43%. (That's broadly consistent with where other national polls have shown Trump's job approval.) In Trump's mind, Fox's polling should be favorable to him.”

Centrist coverage from USA Today briefly reports the president’s comments and noted that 59% of respondents said he is “tearing the country apart.” They also report that the Fox poll showed the president’s approval rating has dropped to 43% from 46% in July. Center-leaning articles generally focused on Trump’s comments, particularly “there’s something going on at Fox News.”

Fox’s latest polling numbers show that while Trump gets a net positive score of +71 among Republicans, he gets a net negative score of -14 among voters in general. Trump polls behind Joe Biden by 12 points, Bernie Sanders by 9, and Elizabeth Warren by 7. Whether these predictions will hold true remains to be seen in the 2020 election.
