Nancy Pelosi has been reelected speaker of the House by her caucus for the next session of Congress. While left-leaning articles highlight that will be the speaker to lead into the Biden era, right-leaning articles highlight that Democrats approved Pelosi despite doubts among some in her party.
A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that Pelosi will be the speaker to lead into the Biden era, but quickly seemed to suggest these would be her final two years in the leadership post. Democrats unexpectedly lost at least 10 incumbents in this month’s elections, leaving them with only a 222-213 majority in the House.
NPR published a centrist article reporting that Pelosi did not face any challenge for her post but will need to secure a simple majority by the House of Representatives. Other top Democratic leaders, such as Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., and Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., also ran unopposed.
A right-leaning article by The Washington Examiner highlights that Democrats approved Pelosi despite doubts, among some, that she could lead the party. Representative Elissa Stotkin of Michigan was the only Democrat who publicly voiced opposition to Pelosi ahead of the election.
