On Tuesday, Former Vice President Joe Biden’s released a medical report prepared by his physician, Kevin C. O’Connor, detailing his health condition. The report noted that Biden is currently being treated for an irregular heartbeat, gastroesophageal reflux, and seasonal allergies. When Biden was 65, he suffered a cerebral aneurysm, which has since been treated. The Washington Post published a left-leaning article highlighting that the health of presidential candidates have taken on more importance in this campaign, because many of the top candidates are in their 70s, making them among the oldest presidents in history. Throughout the campaign, Biden’s age has often come up, with Trump coining the nickname “Sleepy Joe” and former housing secretary Julian Castro suggesting during a debate that Biden misstated something he said two minutes earlier.
A centrist article by NPR states that the health issues of the former vice president are some of the more common complaints of our time, stating that he takes satin to keep his cholesterol levels under control, he has allergies, and he had several non-melanoma skin cancers removed. The article also notes that Biden is 5 feet, 11.65 inches, and weighs 178 pounds, which is not considered to be overweight.
A right-leaning article by The Washington Examiner notes that the report makes no mention of Biden’s declining cognitive ability or mental function, and neglects to mention Biden’s subconjunctival hemorrhage, which caused his left eye to fill with blood during a September televised town hall. The article also reports that sometime before 2008, doctors found out Biden suffered from mild diverticulosis, which are small pouches that bulge outward through the colon or large intestine.
