On Friday, Russia retaliated over a new round of U.S. sanctions imposed a day ago by the Biden administration, and expelled 10 U.S. diplomats from Russia. While left-leaning articles highlight that Russia sanctioned eight senior US administration officials including FBI director Christopher Wray and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines, right-leaning articles highlight that the Russian Foreign Ministry claimed that the move to bar top U.S. security officials from entering the country was in reaction to sanctions instated on March 2 for the poisoning of Aleksey Navalny.
A left-leaning article by CNN highlights that Russia sanctioned eight senior US administration officials including FBI director Christopher Wray and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines. Russia’s penalties come in a week when Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed concerns about Moscow’s military build-up along the border with Ukraine.
NPR published a centrist article reporting that the Biden administration imposed sanctions over the SolarWinds cyberattack and the Kremlin’s election meddling. Moscow will also add eight U.S. officials to its sanctions list, as well as will restrict the activities of U.S. nongovernmental organizations.
A left-leaning article by Fox News highlights that the Russian Foreign Ministry claimed that the move to bar top U.S. security officials from entering the country was not in reaction to Thursday’s sanctions, but rather sanctions instated on March 2 for the poisoning of Aleksey Navalny. If the U.S. does not reverse their “spiraling sanctions” the foreign office threatened to reduce the number of American diplomatic personal to Russia.
