On Wednesday, Senators used dozens of written submissions over several hours to argue for and against witnesses, spending hours filled with questions, answers, and litigation to fight over new witnesses in the impeachment trial. However, the way ahead is still not clear as to whether John Bolton or other witnesses might appear.

A left-leaning article by Bloomberg reports on the developments from Wednesday’s questioning of House managers and Trump’s defense lawyers. Trump’s team stated that “mere information” from a foreign country about a U.S. political candidate isn’t considered unlawful election interference, the role Chief Justice John Roberts would play in overseeing testimony by witnesses was debated, and Trump’s lawyer Jay Sekulow said he would like to call House manager Adam Schiff and Joe and Hunter Biden.

A centrist article by NPR highlights that the main issue about Bolton’s testimony isn’t only important to the substance of evidence in the case, but also in determining how much longer the trial goes. Senators wrote questions on specially printed cards that were carried to Roberts, who read them for the House Democrats or Trump’s lawyers, using the questions to set up partisan allies to deliver talking points and ask questions of opponents that might embarrass them.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that on Wednesday, House impeachment manager Adam Schiff, D-Calif., denied knowing about the identity of Trump’s whistleblower. He also claimed that no one from the House Intelligence Committee was involved in coaching them. The article reports that Schiff emphasized the importance of maintaining the privacy of the whistleblower and called rumors of his behind-the-scenes involvement a “conspiracy theory.”
