On Tuesday, Trump and his team blamed Iran for an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post reports that Trump’s hopes for diplomacy with Tehran were placed further out of reach as he blamed Iran for the attack, tweeting that, “Iran will be held fully responsible for lives lost, or damage incurred, at any of our facilities. They will pay a very BIG PRICE!” The article also reports that the United States has options to confront Iran indirectly through military action and to increase economic and political pressure on Tehran, or it could retaliate against Iraq for failing to do more to protect the embassy.

A centrist article by NPR reports that the Pentagon is deploying another 750 soldiers following in Baghdad, as protestors demonstrated outside the embassy, which contains offices, residences, and other facilities for the staff. The outraged Iraqi protestors are angry about the series of U.S. airstrikes against the Iranian-backed Kataib Hezbollah militia on Sunday that killed at least 25 people. Photos and videos from the scene showed angry crowds smashing windows and throwing rocks.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that on “Special Report,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said there were no plans to evacuate the embassy or to pull troops out of Iraq. Pompeo also stated he wanted to put real pressure on Iran and reiterated Trump's promise that Tehran would feel the power of the United States if the situation required it.
