On Thursday, President Trump filed a petition requesting the Supreme Court to block a subpoena for his tax returns. In early November, a federal appeals court ruled to allow New York City prosecutors to proceed with a subpoena.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. attempted to enforce a grand jury subpoena issued to the president’s accounts for his tax records over the last eight years. The article states that Vance has rejected Trump’s immunity claims, stating that he needs Trump’s tax records for his investigation into the president’s alleged hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

A centrist article by NPR reports that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit declined to revisit an earlier ruling by a three-judge panel that allowed Congress to subpoena President Trump’s tax records. The Circuit voted 8-3 in favor of holding the earlier ruling.

A right-leaning article byFox News highlights that Jay Sekulow, counsel to the president, stated that the Second Circuit decision regarding a subpoena “violates the U.S. Constitution and therefore is unenforceable.” The article notes that although Trump has refused to release his tax returns, other presidents have done so in the past as well.
