On Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused President Trump of bribery as multiple witnesses have alleged that Trump withheld security assistance funds to Ukraine in exchange for investigations into Joe Biden and his son.
A left leaning article by The Washington Post reports that the testimony on Wednesday from acting U.S. ambassador to Ukraine William B. Taylor revealed that David Holmes, an embassy staffer in Ukraine, overheard Trump discussing “investigations” with U.S. ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland. According to an anonymous source, Suriya Jayanti, a Foreign Service officer based at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv also overheard the phone call.
A centrist article by NPR reports that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff stated that bribery could be an article for impeachment that the House will consider. Meanwhile, Pelosi asserted that the Democrats have not yet made a decision to impeach President Trump.
A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy called Schiff a serial liar on Thursday, claiming that Schiff lied during the congressional Russia probe and when he said he didn’t know who the whistleblower was during the public hearing on Wednesday. McCarthy also stated that he does “not think that Schiff is fit to be in the position to run the Intelligence Committee.”
