On Friday, Roger Stone, President Trump’s longtime confident, was found guilty by a federal court jury on all seven counts of obstruction, witness tampering, and making false statements to Congress.

A left-leaning article by The New York Times reports that during the trial, prosecutors pressed Stone about the fact that he lied to lawmakers about his outreach to WikiLeaks, the website that disclosed many hacked Democratic emails ahead of the 2016 election. The article also notes that Stone, along with former business partner Paul Manafort, were the only two Trump aides charged in the Mueller investigation who decided not to plead guilty, but rather go to trail instead.

A centrist article by NPR highlights that after his arrest, Stone claimed that the authorities showed up at his house "with a greater force than was used to take down Bin Laden, or El Chapo, or Pablo Escobar, to terrorize my wife and my dogs--it's unconscionable." While Stone’s defense lawyers argued that the investigation against him was misguided, Stone did not take a stand during the trial and no witnesses were called on his behalf.

Fox News published a right-leaning article noting that on Friday, “View” co-host Meghan McCain, who is not a fan of Trump or his associates, tweeted, "Rot in hell, Roger Stone." On the contrary, President Trump voiced his disdain for the verdict and tweeted, "So they now convict Roger Stone of lying and want to jail him for many years to come. Well, what about Crooked Hillary, Comey, Strzok, Page, McCabe, Brennan, Clapper, Shifty Schiff, Ohr & Nellie, Steele & all of the others, including even Mueller himself? Didn’t they lie? A double standard like never seen before in the history of our Country?"
