On Friday morning, Marie Yovanovitch, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine testified publicly in the House impeachment inquiry into President Trump. Trump attacked Yovanovitch during her testimony by tweeting, “Everywhere Marie Yovanovitch went turned bad. She started off in Somalia, how did that go?”

A left-leaning article by The New Yorker highlights that the biggest takeaway from Yovanovitch’s testimony is that any public servant who ends up on Trump’s bad side will be destroyed by him. The article also reports that Yovanovitch gave voice to the diplomats that Trump and his supporters have denigrated and recalled that “the color drained from her face when she learned that President Trump had threatened her during his call with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

A centrist article by The Hill gives an overview of the six most memorable moments from Yovanovitch’s testimony, including the fact that Republican Representative Jim Jordan had a tense exchange when Schiff and said Republicans’ “indulgence” of him wore out a long time ago. Yovanovitch also stated that she understood Trump’s authority to remove her as ambassador, she didn’t understand the attacks on her reputation.

A right-leaning article by Fox News focuses on president Trump’s tweet blasting Yovanovitch. White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham defended Trump’s tweet in a statement on Friday. "The tweet was not witness intimidation, it was simply the President’s opinion, which he is entitled to. This is not a trial, it is a partisan political process - or to put it more accurately, a totally illegitimate, charade stacked against the President."
