On Wednesday, President Trump’s impeachment inquiry will move into the nationally televised open hearings phase. While left-leaning articles highlight how upcoming testimonies will describe Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, right-leaning articles focus on the memorandum House Republicans released earlier this week.

A left-leaning article by The New York Times reports that the top diplomat in Ukraine William B. Taylor Jr. and a senior State Department official George P. Kent will be the first of several witnesses to testify publicly and describe how President Trump sought to “bribe, extort condition or coerce” the President of Ukraine. The article also states that the importance of Wednesday’s hearing is not to produce new revelations, but rather for the American people to hear the evidence of Trump’s misconduct for themselves.

A centrist interview by NPR's Jamil Jaffer, a former associate White House counsel during the Bush administration, who said that Republicans are calling for Hunter Biden and a former DNC staffer to testify in the impeachment inquiry to show that the President was investigating corruption in Ukraine and that Ukraine was already involved in the U.S. elections. Jaffer also notes that House Intelligence Committee Democratic chairman Adam Schiff indicated that he will not call on the whistleblower to testify in order to maintain this person’s confidentiality.

A right-leaning article byThe Daily Caller highlights that House Republicans released an 18-page memorandum on Monday night describing the facts in Trump’s impeachment case which do not support allegations that Trump withheld foreign aid to incentivize Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son. The memo promises to use four key pieces of evidence to show that there was no “‘Treason, Bribery, or other high crimes and Misdemeanors,’ as required by the U.S. Constitution.”
