On Friday, Trump blasted a piece written in Christianity Today, a magazine for evangelical Christians. On Thursday, an editorial issued in the magazine called for Trump’s removal from office. The magazine was founded by late famed evangelist Reverend Billy Graham, however, the article was written by the magazine’s editor in chief, Mark Galli.
The Washington Post published a left-leaning article reporting that even a slight drop in support amongst evangelical Christians could be detrimental to the president’s reelection hopes, especially in swing states. Several White House officials stated that they believed Trump was bringing too much attention to the editorial, given that the magazine has a paid circulation of 90,000.
A centrist article by Bloomberg highlights that in the piece, Galli stated “none of the president’s positives can balance the moral and political danger we face under a leader of such grossly immoral character.” In the piece, Galli also included an excerpt from a 1998 editorial on the failings of President Bill Clinton as he faced impeachment proceedings.
A right-leaning article by New York Post emphasizes that on Friday, President Trump boasted that he’s done more for evangelicals than any other president. On Twitter, he wrote, A far left magazine, or very ‘progressive,’ as some would call it, which has been doing poorly and hasn’t been involved with the Billy Graham family for many years, Christianity Today, knows nothing about reading a perfect transcript of a routine phone call and would rather have a Radical Left nonbeliever, who wants to take your religion & your guns, than Donald Trump as your President.”
