On Tuesday, President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden will meet face-to-face for the first time in the first 90-minute debate in Cleveland. While left-leaning articles highlight that the moderator for Tuesday’s debate will have the opportunity to push Biden on important issues, right-leaning articles highlight that Biden could be making a mistake if he attempts to act as a “fact-checker” of Trump’s positions in the upcoming debate.

A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that the moderator for Tuesday’s presidential debate, Fox News journalist Chris Wallace, will have an opportunity to push Biden on important issues. The article notes that Wallace should ask Biden about addressing racism, permitting U.S. Attorney John Durham to investigate the origins of the investigation into Trump’s 2016 campaign, and expanding the Supreme Court.

USA Today published a centrist article reporting that the debate will not have typical debate standards, as there will be no handshake because of coronavirus concerns and no opening statements. While Trump will be seeking to close his nearly 7-point deficit in national polls, Biden will be forced to balance not losing his cool while portraying himself as a steady-hand alternative.

A right-leaning article by Fox News highlights that Biden could be making a mistake if he attempts to act as a “fact-checker” of President Trump’s positions in the upcoming debate. Fox News contributor Karl Rove suggested that Biden should be more forward-looking in his outlook at the debate if he wants to appeal to a broader audience.
