On Friday, a federal judge began a hearing to decide whether to block the release of former national security adviser John Bolton’s upcoming book. While left-leaning articles highlight that the judge expressed doubt that he could stop the publication, right-leaning articles highlight that Bolton turned in his manuscript without clearance from the National Security Council.

A left-leaning article by CNN highlights that Judge Royce Lamberth of the D.C. District Court expressed doubt Friday that he could stop the upcoming publication of Bolton’s book. Bolton said he worked extensively with National Security Council reviewer Ellen Knight for months to make sure no classified details were revealed in his manuscript.

Reuters published a centrist article reporting that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo branded Bolton as a “traitor” by violating his trust with the American people. Pompeo also said Bolton’s actions were both sad and dangerous.

A right-leaning article by New York Post highlights that Lamberth asked out loud why Bolton turned in his manuscript to the publisher without waiting for it to be cleared by the National Security Council. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Morrell said Bolton “egregiously breached his obligation” to not publish anything about his government work without having it vetted first.
