On Monday, President Trump decried the dangers of voting by mail. While left-leaning articles highlight that many Trump administration officials voted by mail in the past, right-leaning articles highlight that absentee balloting was rarely used in the last two world wars.

The Washington Post published a left-leaning article highlighting that Attorney General William Barr said that expanding voting by mail would open “the floodgates of potential fraud,” despite the fact that Barr himself has voted absentee in both the 2019 and 2012 elections. The article also notes that much of the Trump administration has used mail-in voting, including Trump, Vice President Pence, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, Ivanka Trump, and first lady Melania Trump.

A centrist article by The Hill highlights that Vice President Pence and his wife voted by mail in Indiana earlier this year and used the address of the governor’s mansion in Indianapolis, where they have not lived since December 2016. The article notes that Trump said there is a difference between voting by mail while living outside one’s home state and voting by mail while living in the state where one is registered to vote.

New York Post published a right-leaning article highlighting that President Trump recalled that the country made it to the polls during the two world wars last century. The article notes that while absentee balloting for military members in World War I was used, it wasn’t particularly efficient.
