On Monday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending temporary visas for foreign workers until the end of 2020. While left-leaning articles highlight that the move is fiercely opposed by business leaders, right-leaning articles highlight that Republican lawmakers raised concerns that the move could stunt the U.S. economic recovery.

The New York Times published a left-leaning article highlighting that the order would also restrict the ability of American companies with global operations and international companies with U.S. branches to transfer foreign executives. In addition to temporary suspensions, administration officials said Trump was directing the government to make permanent changes to other immigration regulations, including new methods of ensuring that high-skill visas in the future are awarded to the highest paid workers.

USA Today published a centrist article reporting that the new order extends Trump’s original ban through December 30. Experts such as David Bier, an immigration policy analyst at the libertarian Cato Institute, said that suspending the L-1 visa for foreign corporate executives would hurt the American economy.

Fox News published a right-leaning article highlighting that Republican lawmakers raised concerns that losing temporary guest workers could stunt the U.S. economic recovery. In response to Trump’s order, South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey graham tweeted that she expected this would have negative outcomes for the U.S. economic recovery.
