On Tuesday, Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease expert and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, testified before a House committee. While left-leaning articles highlight that Fauci stressed there is still a “disturbing surge” of new coronavirus cases, right-leaning articles highlight that Fauci said a vaccine to end the coronavirus pandemic “might take some time.”

The Washington Post published a right-leaning article highlighting that Fauci stressed that the country is still in the grip of the pandemic’s first wave, including a “disturbing surge” of new cases in Southern and Western states. Health officials also warned of a difficult fall and winter because the U.S. health-care system would be battling the coronavirus and the seasonal flu.

USA Today published a centrist article reporting that Fauci said he’d never been instructed to slow down coronavirus testing, despite recent claims from President Trump. Like Fauci, Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, Stephen Hahn, commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration; and Brett Giroir, assistant secretary for health for Health and Human Services, each told lawmakers they never heard any request from the White House to slow down testing.

A right-leaning article by New York Post highlights that Fauci said a vaccine to end the coronavirus pandemic “might take some time.” Fauci said that he’s “cautiously optimistic” that vaccine distribution can begin by “the end of this calendar year and the beginning of 2021.”
