On Monday, President Trump said that adequate coronavirus testing existed but was being underutilized by governors. The statement comes in response to a chorus of complaints by state leaders and health care experts regarding the country’s insufficient testing capacity. While left-leaning articles highlight Trump’s varying positions on stay-at-home orders, right-leaning articles highlight that a former New York Times reporter said that states should reopen schools.

The New York Times published a left-leaning article highlighting that Trump has nurtured protests against state-issued stay-at-home orders, as his approach to the presidency over the past three years has been hurtling from one position to another. On Friday, Trump tweeted “LIBERATE,” which went against strict orders in specific states by urging people to “liberate” their states.

A centrist article by NPR reports that during the Monday daily coronavirus task force briefing, Trump said that public-private partnerships significantly expanded the nation’s testing capabilities. However, the briefing comes after a series of tense disagreements between Trump and a number of Democratic governors last week. On Friday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Trump engaged in a heated back-and-forth that included the president tweeting at Cuomo to “Stop talking!” during the governor’s daily coronavirus briefing.

Fox News published a right-leaning article highlighting that former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson told Fox News’ Brit Hume that states should “reopen schools as quickly as possible” while also questioning other elements of the government response to the pandemic. Berenson also spoke about how he became skeptical of the solutions governments are pushing to the coronavirus crisis.
