On Sunday, President Trump gave a two-hour interview to Fox News in the Lincoln Memorial. While left-leaning articles highlight that Trump self-congratulated himself during the interview, right-leaning articles highlight Trump’s endorsement of state-by-state approaches to loosening lockdown restrictions.
A left-leaning article by The Washington Post highlights that Trump’s interview mixed self-pity with self-congratulation, as he claimed that no president has been treated worse than him, while also boasting that his administration was “winning very big.” However, the article disputes, the president has increased the number of probable deaths due to coronavirus multiple times after insisting that Americans had nothing to worry about.
The Hill published a centrist article reporting that President Trump predicted on Sunday that the United States will lose anywhere from 75,000 to 100,000 people to the coronavirus. While Fox News anchor Bret Baier noted that Trump’s own prediction on the death toll had changed from an earlier estimate of 60,000, Deborah Birx, coordinator of the White House coronavirus response, said their projections have always estimated between 100,000 and 240,000 people could die.
Fox News published a right-leaning article highlighting that Trump endorsed a state-by-state approach to loosening lockdown restrictions, while predicting that a coronavirus vaccine could be available by December. Trump also continued to emphasize that China had conclusively misled the world on the spread of the coronavirus.
